01:21 pm: 2006 in Review
What did you do in 2006 that you’d never done before?
Started at SFU, attended a funeral, took a trip with friends, went to gay club, lost my keys, quit my job... wow, this was a year of firsts

Did anyone close to you give birth?
Danielle's brother's wife, to TJ

What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
I feel that this year has been a growth... most of the things that I lacked at the beginning I found by now. However I'm hoping to be able to not take things as personally.

What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory?
Nana's funeral (March 11th), Mexico (June 25-July 2) and Alex's 19th (July 15th)

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Becoming more independent and obtaining my goal weight

What was your biggest failure?
Failure makes me think of regret... and I don't regret.

What was the best thing you bought?
My Mexico trip

Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Alyssa - I can't believe how strong that girl has been this year, I'm really proud of her

Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
I don't think I have to mention a name

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Great Big Sea and Mexico

What song/album will always remind you of 2006?
Mexico - Jimmy Buffett, Scolding Wife - Great Big Sea

Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or sadder? Happier
Thinner or fatter? Thinner
Richer or poorer? Richer, despite paying for my trip

What do you wish you’d done more of?
Working out? But even that I don't really think about

What do you wish you’d done less of?
Concerning about other people

How did you spend Christmas?
With Mom's side of the family for the first time in years

Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
My guess is Geoff (if not, then Calan or Karen)

Did you fall in love in 2006?
Nope

What was your favourite TV programme?
Survivor, America's Next Top Model and Young & the Restless

Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Nope

What was the best book(s) you read?
Still reading most of them... surprisingly Star by Pamela Anderson was good and The Devil Wears Prada

What was your greatest musical discovery?
Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts (newfound love for country)

What did you want and get?
Lots of hugs

What did you want and not get?
Hmm... a boyfriend I guess?

What were your favourite films of this year?
The Devil Wears Prada and The Holiday

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
The big 2-0. Me and about 12 friends went to Buffalo Club and danced the night away - not the greatest of clubs, but we made the best of it

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Hmm... not sure.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Haha evolving, which involved a lot of yelling and fighting with friends and my mother about what they thought I should wear

What kept you sane?
Alex, Tyler, Geoff, Karen, Lyssa, Josh and Calan on a rotating basis

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
No one stands out

What political issue stirred you the most?
Not many

Who did you miss?
A lot of people

Who was the best new person you met?
Alex, hands down.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006.
I learned that being independent happens only when you let yourself be independent. Friends can't always be there, so being able to stand on my own two feet alone was a feat in itself.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year?
"Forgive, sounds good. Forget, I'm not sure I could. They say time heals everything, but I'm still waiting."

11:48 pm: Cycles of Reptition
Do you ever have that urge to write... but don't want to in fear of someone's eyes stumbling across it?
Do you ever just want to let it all out, but feel like you have to censor yourself because you know that anything you say will be shot down, mocked or just be met with looks of 'what the hell are you talking about's? Or if not, that it will be talked about behind your back?
Do you ever just want to yell and scream thoughts at people but know they won't care and the comments won't change anything for the better?

...I feel like one of those Bryman College commercials.
But really, it's just how I've felt lately - like nothing that I can say around certain people matters. That everything I say is wrong and the world I'm living in is just a power struggle. I'm struggling with friends, parents, myself. There's no winning, even against myself, and that's just plain sad.

It's hard to stay optimistic at this time of year, even with all the shining lights and decorations and songs of joy.
It's hard to stay optimistic when the one person you thought you could trust is someone who now you constantly doubt is being truthful... and whether or not they're a true friend.
It's hard to stay optimistic while watching a guy you like go back to his ex, although there were feelings there, and instead I sit back and watch it happen and don't fight for it.

It's hard to stay optimistic... when I see myself obsessing over little things like this when people are starving and dying, homeless and helpless... and no one "has the time" to help. Not even me.

I hate the way society today is turning - it's suiting and yet horrible that while our parents were the "baby-boomers" we're known as the "me" generation because that's the only one who matters. A sad yet true reality.
I hate the materialism, the lack of compassion and understanding, the need to always be on the go.
And I hate how I'm sitting here ranting about things that I know I'm guilty of myself.

Self therapy, I suppose. No real meaning, just a need to express what is constantly suppressed.

Hitting 19 without drinking and performing with an orchestra

Happier or sadder? Happier
Thinner or fatter? I think I'm about the same
Richer or poorer? Richer, oh thank goodness for PNE

What do you wish you’d done more of?
Studying/school-work... surprisingly. I really could've brought up my GPA...

What do you wish you’d done less of?
That would constitute regret, which I don't have.

How did you spend Christmas?
With family as I should. And at Starbucks for coffee with Calan.

Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
Either Calan or Geoff

Did you fall in love in 2004?

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Oh 19... I went to Milestones for dinner (and my first drink) with some close friends, then back to my house where my friends got drunk for me ;) Learned some new things about people, dealt with some drama, but loved every minute.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A higher GPA

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
I can only describe it as Sam-ish... classy when I wanted to be, scrubbed out when I didn't care what others thought... overall, just comfortable and conservative

What kept you sane?
Calan. And music.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Rachel McAdams and Reese Witherspoon, and by fancy I mean admire.

What political issue stirred you the most?
All the different strikes... education and health care mainly.

Who did you miss?
At different points I missed different people. Mel, Megan, Calan and everyone back home when I was away, Tristan, Josh...

Who was the best new person you met?
*thinks back over who she met this year* Hmm... three-way tie. Alyssa, Madison, Geoff.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005.
Nobody is perfect, but people can be perfect for each other. But even with perceived perfection, there are always obstacles to overcome and tests that you will go through which will teach you things about the strength of friendships and relationships.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year? "Because I knew you, I have been changed for good" - Wicked

11:42 am: Nearing The End Of The Year
It's been a long while since an update... what can I say, I've been busy!
Finals are next week and classes end tomorrow! Crim's officially done as of last block and within 4 hours English and Geography will be too :)
However, the next month is going to be insane. This week has already booked itself up nicely with work, the Centennial Christmas concert, choir, The Chronicles of Narnia, volunteering at my elementary school, more work, the Foggy Dew for Amy's birthday, and yet another choir conert rounding out the week. Ah but I can't complain, I love being busy with so many groups of people. And somehow someway I have to fit in studying *thinking face* Hmm...
It's hard to believe that this year is almost over; it really doesn't feel like more than 11 months ago we were ringing in 2005... or that I'd meet people (a few in particular) that would change the way this school year went more than I can imagine... or that having a good girl friend move would only bring us closer together... or that my cousin would make the Western Michigan Broncos hockey team on a full ride scholarship for 4 years... or that I'd see Kelly Clarkson in concert with my best friend and almost fall off the balcony... or that I'd ACTUALLY finally drink. It really is insane.
To quote Rent: "Time flies. Time dies."
But yet time lives on in us with all the memories and all the pictures (I wonder how many rolls of film I've used in the past 11 months...). I'll never forget 2005 and the people who made it great and who taught me about myself. *sigh*
Well, off to Geography.

525,600 minutes. How do you measure a year in the life; how about love?

How do you cool your lips, after a summer's kiss
How do you rid the sweat, after the body bliss
How do you turn your eyes, from the romantic glare
How do you block the sound of a voice
You'd know anywhere

Oh, I really should've known
By the time you drove me home
By the vagueness in your eyes, your casual goodbyes
By the chill in your embrace
The expression on your face told me
Maybe you might have some advice to give
On how to be insensitive, insensitive, insensitive

How do you numb your skin, after the warmest touch
How do you slow your blood, after the body rush
How do you free your soul, after you've found a friend
How do you teach your heart it's a crime to fall in love again

Oh, you probably won't remember me
It's probably ancient history
I'm one of the chosen few
Who went ahead and fell for you
I'm out of vogue, I'm out of touch
I fell too fast, I feel too much
I thought that you might have, some advice to give
On how to be insensitive

Oh, I really should've known
By the time you drove me home
By the vagueness in your eyes, your casual goodbyes
By the chill in your embrace
The expression on your face that told me
Maybe you might have some advice to give
On how to be insensitive
